Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 05850 - Old Wheeler Lane over Roaring Brook
June 10, 2016 Update The Rehabilitation project is about to begin in earnest as the contractor, Trademark Contractors, LLC out of Bristol CT mobilizes equipment and materials to the job site. Signs have been up for several weeks indicating that the work is scheduled to begin this coming week and that the road will be closed to through traffic starting on June 15th. All of the emergency response agencies and departments have been notified of the closure and will act accordingly as needed. The area of the road over and adjacent to the bridge will have its pavement milled, on Monday June 13th. An overall schedule for the project is included as a link below. This schedule is intended as a guide as projects like this one are weather dependent, however the road must be reopened to through traffic prior to school reopening in August.
April 6, 2016 Update: A letter to property owners on Old Wheeler Lane and adjoining streets (see link below) was sent which included updates to the construction schedule, providing an update to the project and noting the planned closure of Old Wheeler Lane to thru traffic from June 15 until August 26. Lovely Street (Route 177) and Country Club Road will be utilized as a detour route. Incidental work will likely continue into October, however the roadway will be open to thru traffic before school opens in late August. An excerpt of the final design plans is also included as a link below.
November 10, 2015 Update: The Town has received draft design alternatives from AI Engineers, the consultants hired for the project and have determined that a rehabilitation of the bridge superstructure is the most cost effective alternative. Accordingly, AI has worked to complete the design, which includes deck replacement, addition of safety railings, repair of storm drainage, installation of scour measures, and installation of approach guide rails. Included below is a digital file of the most recent copy of the plans. The project, which is being paid for with 20% local and 80% federal funds, is being considered for construction during the summer of 2016 (while school is not in session).
