The Town of Avon is excited to assist the U.S. Census Bureau by supporting the 2020 Census and helping to ensure that Avon is accurately represented in the upcoming count.
The purpose of the decennial Census is to count every person living in the United States “once, only once, and in the right place.” The Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution and the results are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets. Census data is also used to distribute more than $675 billion in federal funds annually to states and communities across the country. These funds are used for schools, hospitals, roads, infrastructure and other important programs. A general FAQ about the 2020 Census is available HERE.
Beginning in mid-March, you will receive a letter via U.S. Mail inviting your household to respond to the 2020 Census. A sample of this letter is available for your review HERE and a copy of the Census Questionnaire is available HERE.
Remember, while completing the Census is mandatory, it’s also an easy way to participate in our democracy and to say “I COUNT!”
Please be advised that the Avon Free Public Library will have dedicated computer lab times for patrons wishing to use their computers to complete their Census online. A flyer with dates and times is available HERE.
We will continue to provide updates on the 2020 Census as it progresses. Please be sure to visit www.2020census.gov anytime to get more information.
