Emergency Preparedness: Are You Prepared When Emergency Strikes?

Avon’s Emergency Management Director Bruce Appell will lead two practical lectures, sponsored by the Avon Lions Club, on “What You Can Do To Be Prepared When Emergency Strikes” at the Avon Free Public Library on December 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.

When disaster strikes, damage caused by a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado or flood, or from man-made events such as explosions or hazardous materials accidents, can affect all aspects of a community, from government services to private and civic activities.

An emergency can leave many individuals and neighborhoods cut off from outside support. Damaged roads and disrupted communications systems may restrict the access of emergency response agencies. In the initial period immediately following a disaster, often up to three days or longer, individuals, households, and neighborhoods may need to rely on their own resources for food, water and shelter.

What you do today will have a real impact on the quality of your survival and your ability to help others while becoming an important asset to your family and neighbors. To sign up for this practical and informative lecture, please go to the Avon Free Public Library calendar, or call the Office of Emergency Management at 860-409-4319.
