Sanitary Sewer Infiltration and Inflow (I & I) Study

November 10, 2015 update:  Due to the low ground water condition of late spring and through the summer, the project was put on hold.  The next steps involve video capturing segments of the piping that showed the greatest amount of I&I with a goal of identifying leaking parts of the system.  We anticipate continuing the project as groundwater rises.

The Town of Avon is working on a study to determine sources of Infiltration (from ground water) and Inflow (from rainwater) into the Town’s sewer collection system.  The project began with the installation of temporary flow meters in select manholes around town.  The project will also involve additional flow monitoring and testing to further refine and identify leaks in the system.  Once the leaks have been identified, cost estimates to repair the system will be prepared and prioritized. The project is being funded using State Clean Water Fund grant and Avon sewer fund money, and is currently focusing on our sewered areas that flow into Farmington only.
