The Avon Free Public Library and The Hill-Stead Museum will present “A Celebration of Cassatt” on Wednesday, August 21 at 2:00 pm. Gabrielle Gaulin, Hill-Stead Education Specialist, will talk about the renowned artist Mary Cassatt, the lasting importance of her work, her relationship with Farmington’s Pope Family, and the museum’s collection of Cassatt’s paintings.

Born in America in 1844, Cassatt lived most of her adult life in France where she became one of the leading artists in the Impressionist movement. Art historian Walter Pach said of Cassatt “Of all the American artists who can be associated with Impressionism, the most important and the most celebrated is Miss Mary Cassatt.”

The program will be held in The Community Room of the Avon Free Public Library at 281 Country Club Road in Avon, CT. Open to all, no registration required. For more information, please call the library at 860.673.9712 or visit online at www.avonctlibrary.info.
