UPDATE (12/9/19 9:00 AM): Due to the rain forecasted for the beginning of this week, the road closures have been delayed until Tuesday, December 10th or Wednesday, December 11th, weather dependent. Signage will be placed to inform drivers that the closure has gone into effect.
Due to significant road improvements taking place in conjunction with the construction of Phase 1A of the Avon Village Center development, beginning the week of December 9, 2019, Climax Road will be closed to all traffic within the construction area. Two temporary roadways have been constructed to detour traffic around the construction site. These detours are as follows:
- Vehicles traveling to and from Bickford Drive Extension, including Forest Mews, Whispering Pines, and the River Ridge Assisted Living Facility, will access Climax Road from West Main Street (Rt. 44), and vice versa. A temporary roadway has been constructed to provide direct access to Bickford Drive Extension from Climax Road, avoiding the construction area. There will be no access from Bickford Drive Extension to any northern parts of Climax Road or vice versa.
- Vehicles traveling to any portion of Climax Road north of Bickford Drive Extension will be detoured onto Ensign Drive from West Main Street (Rt. 44). Vehicles will then be detoured from Ensign Drive onto Bickford Drive. A temporary roadway has been constructed to provide direct access from Bickford Drive to Climax Road, avoiding the construction area.
- Vehicles traveling to the Rt. 44 area from any portion of Climax Road north of Bickford Drive Extension will use the temporary roadway to detour from Climax Road onto Bickford Drive. Vehicles will then turn right onto Ensign Drive to West Main Street (Rt.44).
Please note that vehicles traveling from the northern portions of Climax Road on to the temporary roadway will experience a sharp curve in the road. Proper signage and warnings will be in place however, drivers should be aware and take caution.
The temporary roadways are constructed to meet Town of Avon standards and have been marked accordingly. Ensign Drive is controlled by a traffic signal, and signage will be in place to direct vehicles through all detour locations. These detours are expected to be in place until November of 2020. However, delays may occur.
