transfer station permits
Please be advised that Transfer Station Permits (Residential [$125], Senior [$65], and Recycling Only [$40]) for the Fiscal Year 2022/2023 (begins July 1, 2022) are now available for purchase. We are pleased to share that this year, for the first time, the permits will be exclusively available for purchase online via the Town’s new permitting platform OpenGov Citizen Services.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A PERMIT?
Permits may be obtained via this link: https://avonct.viewpointcloud.com/. To apply for a permit, you will need to create a user account with OpenGov Citizen Services or to sign into an existing OpenGov account. If you have already used this platform to apply for a permit through the Town’s Building Office, Fire Marshal’s Office or Engineering Department, or to apply for permits in another town, you should log in with your existing credentials. There is no need to create a new account.

Once the application is completed, permittees should visit the Transfer Station office to pick up their permit tags. Payment may be made via credit card, e-check, cash or check. Credit card and e-check payments should be made directly on the e-permitting platform. If you are paying by cash or check, please bring your payment when you pick up your tag. In order to expedite the permit tag pick up process, the Town recommends paying by credit card or e-check.  If paying with cash, exact change is preferable. If you are purchasing a Senior Permit, please bring proof of your age when you pick up your tag.

WHAT IF I NEED HELP TO APPLY FOR A PERMIT?
To aid the public in navigating this new electronic process, we have developed a helpful guide. The document includes screenshot photos and can be found HERE. Questions can be answered by the Department of Public Works at (860) 673-6151.

In the event you need further one-on-one assistance to apply for a permit, Avon Senior Center staff stand ready to assist. Please call 860-673-4355 during business hours (Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) to request an appointment. Need access to a computer? Please visit the Library or the Senior Center during operating hours to use a public computer.

WHAT IF I CAN’T GET A NEW PERMIT BEFORE JULY 1ST?
As the e-permitting platform is new this year, the Town will honor Fiscal Year 2021/2022 permits at the Transfer Station until August 1, 2022. This will allow sufficient time for the public to navigate the new platform and obtain a permit for the Fiscal Year 2022/2023.

ARE ANY OTHER TYPES OF TRANSFER STATION PERMITS AVAILABLE ONLINE?
No. One Day Permit Passes and Replacement Permits, as well as Fiscal Year 2021/2022 Landfill Permits are NOT AVAILABLE online and may be purchased at the Landfill during regular business hours. Remember, if you would like to purchase a permit for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2021/2022, the fee will not be prorated.

WHERE IS THE TRANSFER STATION AND WHEN IS IT OPEN?
The Transfer Station is located at 281 Huckleberry Hill Road and is open Tuesdays and Fridays 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Saturdays 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

We appreciate your patience as we implement a new initiative that will ultimately streamline the permitting process for all parties involved and we welcome your constructive feedback as we work to improve the permit application process in future years. Please contact the Department of Public Works with questions or concerns at (860) 673-6151.
