May 10th Budget Referendum

The Annual Budget Referendum is scheduled for Wednesday May 10th. Voting will take place at the Avon Senior Center (635 West Avon Road) from 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. An overview of the Board of Finance’s recommended budget can be found in the Town’s April 2023 Newsletter which was sent to all households in mid-April and is available on the Town’s website HERE.

Electors of the Town (registered voters) and qualified voters are entitled to vote during the Budget Referendum. A qualified voter is (1) a citizen of the United States; (2) 18 years of age or older; and (3) jointly or severally liable to the Town for taxes based on an assessment of not less than $1,000 on the last completed grand list, or would be liable if not entitled to an exemption under subdivision (17), (19), (22), (25), or (26) of Section 12-81 of the General Statutes. Absentee ballots are available in the Town Clerk's Office. To obtain an absentee ballot, an application needs to be completed and submitted by mail or in person to the Town Clerk's Office in Building #2 at the Town Hall. Absentee ballot applications are available HERE.

Please note that per Section 9.4.4 of the Town Charter, if the number of persons voting in a budget referendum is less than nine percent of the Town’s registered voters, as determined by the last completed active voter registry list, the budget that is voted upon is deemed to be approved, even if a majority of the votes cast are for the rejection of the budget.
