Avon Social Services Department Description

The Avon Social Services Department is responsible for the administration and direct provision of the Town social and human service activities as described below.

The Department of Social Services assists Avon residents with social, emotional, and economic needs.  Our services help residents achieve self-sufficiency, maintain economic well-being and adjust to different circumstances and events in their lives.  Like the Town of Avon itself, our services have grown and changed over the years.  Today, our major services are for single adults, families, youth, seniors and the disabled.

Each year, the Social Services Department provides thousands of units of service to Avon individuals and families through various programs which include:  Financial Assistance, Medical Assistance, Short-term Counseling/Assessment, Fuel Assistance, the Holiday Gift Basket Program, Emergency Shelter, Private Funds, Eviction Assistance, and Information and Referral Services.  In addition, we offer elderly and disabled residents many services through the Senior Center and the Dial-A-Ride program.

If you have questions regarding Tax Relief Programs for the Elderly & Disabled, or the Homeowners' Tax Credit Program, please contact the Assessor's Office at (860) 409-4335.

Have you been cut off on Medicaid/HUSKY, despite timely submission of your redetermination documents to DSS or AccessHealthCT?
