Dial-A-Ride:  Personalized transportation service for senior citizens age 60 and over, and the permanently disabled (collecting Social Security Disability).  The vans are handicapped accessible. Call the Department, at 860-409-4346 for an information sheet and simple registration form.

Tickets are $0.50 each, for a one-way fare, and may be purchased from the Town Clerk's Office. Drivers cannot accept cash! There is a limit of 20 tickets ($10) per month.  Please see guidelines and application below:

Dial-A-Ride Application

Destinations are anywhere in Avon, Simsbury Commons (formerly Farmington Valley Mall), Unionville Center, Collinsville Center, Canton Village, The Shoppes at Farmington Valley -Canton, CT, and John Dempsey Hospital.  Medical appointments are given priority and can be scheduled far in advance.  Other rides should be scheduled through the service provider (phone 860-693-6876) between 24 and 48 hours in advance.  Urgent, same-day requests can be accommodated, only if there is a cancellation or an opening.  The hours of operation for rides are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  No rides are available on days when the Town Hall is closed.  

Service availability may be limited regarding ongoing/multiple weekly medical appointments.

Transportation for medical appointments outside of the Avon service area, such as in Hartford, is available through our "Enhanced Dial-A-Ride Service".


This Service is available thanks to a grant through the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Town of Avon Dial-A-Ride Policies

Service Animals: Service animals are permitted to accompany riders with disabilities on trips.

Respirators or Portable Oxygen: Riders using respirators or portable oxygen are fully permitted to use the Dial-A-Ride service.

Lift and Securement: Wheelchair users are required to permit their wheelchairs to be secured. However, service will not be denied, in the event that a wheelchair cannot be secured. Additionally, wheelchair users are not required to transfer to another seat.

Upon request, Dial-A-Ride staff will provide assistance, as necessary, with lifts, ramps, and the wheelchair securement process.

Riders with disabilities, who do not use wheelchairs, are permitted to use the Dial-A-Ride vehicle’s lift or ramp, as necessary.

Vehicle Boarding Process: The Dial-A-Ride Service will allow reasonable and adequate time for individuals with disabilities to board or disembark the vehicle.
